Federal report shows Missouri out of the ‘red zone’ for COVID-19 cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After months of being in the 'red zone' for COVID-19 cases, indicating 101 or more new cases per 100,000 population, Missouri has now made it out, sitting in the 'orange zone.'

According to the state profile report, Missouri is now reporting 86 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.

Missouri's positivity rate is in the 'yellow zone,' sitting at 7 percent, which is a 1.7 percent decrease from the previous week.

As of last week, Cole and Boone County were not under any alerts, but the newest report shows Cole County back in the yellow zone for cases and positivity rate.

Only seven counties in the state are now reporting in the the 'red zone':

  • Johnson
  • Lawrence
  • Scott
  • Ripley
  • Carroll
  • Harrison
  • Scotland

Though most of the data is trending in the right direction, the report shows Missouri in one of the lowest percentiles for people receiving one or more doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The report says only 6.1-8 percent of the population has gotten at least one dose.

According to Missouri's COVID-19 vaccine dashboard, 10.6 percent of the population has actually received at least one dose, or 650,449 people. As of Wednesday morning, 259,889 have received their second dose.
