Boone County Fire District responds to three structure fires Tuesday

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County Fire District responded to three fires Tuesday across the county.

According to a release, the first fire happened just after 5:30 p.m. on W. Route K.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story house with smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Firefighters took control the fire and entered on both floors and moved to the wood stove where the owner stated the fire had started. Firefighters found that the fire did start on the second floor near the flue pipe.

Firefighters were able to salvage most belongings in the lower level which sustained minimal damage, however the second floor suffered significant fire and smoke damage.

There were no injuries but one cat did die in the fire.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.

Firefighters responded to the second fire just after 9:30 to a house fire on Ruby Street in Sturgeon.

Once on scene, firefighters found nothing showing on the outside of the house however found light smoke inside the home.

The homeowner told officials that he had been trying to thaw frozen water lines most of the day. The homeowner had actually cut a hole in his floor looking for the source of the smoke. Firefighters cut a larger hole in same area that the heat source was located to thaw pipes. Firefighters then found the floor joist that was on fire. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and checked for extension with nothing found.

Officials report no injuries and the cause of the fire was a heat source too close to combustibles and ruled accidental.

Firefighters responded just before 11:30 p.m. to a structure fire on Mount Zion Church Rd south of Hallsville.

When firefighters arrived they found a home with smoke showing from the eaves and fire on the back side. Firefighters made access to the back of the house where they were able to knock down the flames and then enter the residence. Once inside crews were able to completely extinguish the flames. Crews checked for extension and extinguished additional hotspots.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was a heat source too close to combustibles and ruled accidental.
