Man arrested after shots were fired in a Boone County home
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Multiple agencies responded after reports of shots fired in Boone County Saturday.
According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a home in the 900 block of Nance Drive around 9:45 p.m. after a caller said a man had shot a shotgun inside of the home.
Deputies determined 33-year-old Brendan Leonard lived in the home. The department said Leonard had apparently been drinking when he got into an argument with other people he shared the home with after they asked him to turn down the volume on the television.
A verbal altercation reportedly became psychical when Leonard assaulted one of the residents.
Information led deputies to believe when he was asked to leave he began moving his stuff out. He then apparently came back into the home with a shotgun while wearing a body armor carrier with extra ammo.
Leonard reportedly went downstairs where he fired several rounds, damaging the home.
There were two adults and several children in the home at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Leonard then left the home but was located by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Hallsville. Law enforcement took him into custody without incident and he was taken to the Boone County Jail.
He is now facing the following charges:
- Armed Criminal Action (Felony)
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony)
- Property Damage 1st Degree (Felony)
- Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felonies)
- Two counts of Domestic Assault 4th degree (Misdemeanors)
- Driving While Intoxicated – Persistent Offender (Felony)
