Jefferson City police take three people into custody after traffic stop

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police took three people into custody on Saturday after a traffic stop around 5:17 a.m.

During the traffic stop, officers recovered a stolen firearm. They also found a second weapon and are working to determine if it was also stolen.

Police stopped the vehicle for suspicious activiy.

The driver could not identify the owner of the vehicle and was not willing to tell officers why he was driving it.

The driver, Joshua Davis, 21, was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant for domestic assault. He is now facing charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, violation of an order of protection and driving while suspended.

Police also took a second 23-year-old adult into custody for possession of the stolen weapon. The weapon was reported stolen in Jefferson City in September of 2020 after being stolen from a vehicle.

A third person in the vehicle was reported as a runaway juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Attention Center and turned over to authorities
there.

The other two occupants of the vehicle were released.

The investigation into the vehicle is ongoing.
