A Columbia woman is being held in the Boone County Jail Saturday after being arrested for assault.

Columbia Police arrested 22-year-old Jerika D. Owens, of Columbia for assault and resisting arrest Friday.

CPD was dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Brewer Drive for a report of a disturbance.

According to a press release, Boone County Joint Communications said a female suspect with a gun tried to hit two people with the weapon.

When officers arrived on scene, they found evidence of an assault but the suspect had left the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

As officers were concluding the original investigation, the suspect’s vehicle returned to the scene with three other people.

Officers made contact with Owens and took her into custody, despite her resisting arrest.

Officers searched the vehicle and found ammunition but did not find a gun.

Around the same time, officers learned another person in the suspect’s car, 28-year-old James E. McDaniel Jr., of Columbia, had an active arrest warrant.

Officers found marijuana near where McDaniel was sitting and detained him. However, McDaniel was released and cited when officers learned the warrant was non-extraditable.

There were no injuries reported.
