SATURDAY UPDATES: State health department reports jump in cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE 9:00 P.M.: The Chariton County Healthy Center reported 24 new COVID-19 cases Saturday.

There have been 454 cases of the virus in the county.

On Saturday, 115 were active.

UPDATE 4:30 P.M.: The Howard County Sheriff's Department posted to its Facebook page Saturday saying the jail is temporarily closed.

The post cited a shortage of staff due to illness.

Detainees are being held at the Cooper County Jail.

ORIGINAL: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported a jump in COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

According to the state health department's COVID-19 dashboard, Missouri's total case count jumped 2,204 within the last 24 hours.

In total, 292,740 Missourians have tested positive the virus since the start of the pandemic. The state also added eight deaths.
