Mizzou football focused in on new opponent

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou football team will play Vanderbilt - instead of Arkansas - on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon. You can hear his full news conference in the video player below.

Drinkwitz said the team had zero positive COVID-19 tests on Sunday. He added MU will get three of its 11 players back from quarantine this week. Defensive coordinator Ryan Walters is also back after missing Saturday's game against South Carolina.

On Monday, the SEC postponed MU's game against Arkansas due to COVID-19 concerns with the Razorbacks. The league then decided to move MU's previously postponed game against Vanderbilt to Saturday. Coach Drinkwitz said he learned of the news around 5 p.m. Monday.

"Coach Pittman - I will give him credit - he called me Monday morning and let me know their numbers were really close."

Drinkwitz added his team is not making any excuses this week, and the Tigers will be prepared to play Vanderbilt on Saturday.

After this week - Mizzou is scheduled to play three games in three weeks against Mississippi State, Georgia and Arkansas.

Also on Tuesday - Coach Drinkwitz surprised lineman Cannon York during a team meeting before practice with some pretty exciting news.
