Mizzou will be without defensive coordinator for South Carolina game

COLUMBIA, S.C. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou football team will be without defensive coordinator Ryan Walters on Saturday due to contact tracing. A Mizzou spokesman announced the news an hour before kickoff against South Carolin.

David Gibbs will serve as the defensive coordinator in Walter's place. Defensive analyst Grant O'Brien will take Gibbs' place as the 10th assistant coach.

Mizzou will suit up 56 scholarship players on Saturday - meaning the Tigers will be without 11 players.

JJ Hester, Shawn Robinson, Keion Willis, Adam Sparks, Stacy Brown, Johnny Walker, Ish Burdine, Boo Smith, Sci Martin, Dylan Spencer and Markell Utsey will not play on Saturday, according to a spokesman.

Linebacker Chad Bailey will be allowed to play the entire game. He will serve his suspension, stemming from the Florida game on Oct. 31, at a later date, according to an MU spokesman.

The SEC will allow Markell Utsey and Dylan Spencer's suspension to be served on Saturday even though they are not able to play.

A Mizzou spokesman also said Larry Borom, Xavier Delgado and Kobie Whiteside will be available on Saturday only in an emergency situation.

The Tigers and Gamecocks will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. You can read our full preview and game day predictions here.
