COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Local Boone County and Columbia residents spoke out today on both sides about former Vice President Joe Biden winning the presidential election Saturday.

Trump supporters gathered outside the Missouri State Capitol early Saturday afternoon for the "stop the steal" protest.

A local republican in Columbia who wanted to stay anonymous for safety reasons said he just wants what's best for America.

"Just because Joe Biden is not who I voted for, I wish him the best of luck," he said. "I just want everybody to love everybody."

Also in Columbia, several small groups gathered in support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris winning the presidential election.

Columbia resident Barbie Banks was one supporter who gathered outside of Columbia City Hall for several hours late Saturday afternoon. She and other were celebrating the results.

"It is going to start a healing process for us personally and for our country and I am very excited that we get to have Joe Biden but also a female vice president for the first time, it's very exciting," she said.

State Representatives also commented on the election results. Senator Josh Hawley tweeted Saturday afternoon saying the media does not choose the president, the people do.

Senator Roy Blunt also spoke out about the election. He said all legal votes need to be counted and all illegal votes should not be counted.

Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia have still not been called according to ABC News.

President Donald Trump's attorney said lawsuits about the presidential election will be brought forward on Monday.
