Police respond to second shots fired on Oak Street in Columbia, more than 40 shell casing found
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Police Department responded to the 400 block of Oak Street around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday for shots fired.
In a press release, Police say multiple rounds were fired but no injuries were reported. More than 40 shell casing were found on the scene according to police.
When officers go to the scene, the department says it learned there was an exchange of gunfire from two groups close together.
Police say there is no suspect description or vehicle description as of Sunday evening. The Criminal Investigation Division will take over the investigation.
Several parked vehicles and a home were damaged in the neighborhood.
ABC 17 News crews saw at least 6 Columbia patrol cars in the area and officers searching a home and its backyard. The crim scene investigation van also arrived on scene later.
This comes after police responded to the same block on Friday shortly before 8 p.m.
According to a press release from police, officers found a residence was damaged that had adults and juveniles inside. Officers also found several shell casings in the area.
There were no injuries reported at that incident.
Boone County Joint Communications told police the suspect who shot at the residence on Friday was last seen driving a dark-colored vehicle traveling southbound on Oak Street.
Assistant Chief of Police Brian Richenberger commented on the frequency of shots fired calls.
"The frequency of these incidents of gunfire is unacceptable and will not be tolerated," said Assistant Chief of Police Brian Richenberger. "Under the leadership of Chief Geoff Jones, CPD will pour all of our available resources into this investigation in order to prevent any future harm to innocent bystanders in our community."
