United Way annual giving campaign starts Friday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Heart of Missouri United Way will be kicking off their 2020 virtual campaign on Friday.

Andrew Grabau, Executive Director of the Heart of Missouri United Way, joined ABC 17 News for a live interview about the virtual campaign on Thursday.

Grabau said the need in the community is greater than before amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He said families that didn't require assistance a year ago are finding themselves in a place of need right now.

"In March we started to fund grants to help meet the urgent needs. So far we have provided $300,000 to help 40,000 people in need," Grabau said. "Everything from kids who need lunches to people that needed rent assistance. "
