Police investigating a shooting in downtown Columbia

COLUMBIA Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Police are investigating after a shooting took place in downtown Columbia early Sunday morning.

According to CPD, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North 6th Street for reports of shots fired at 4:01 Sunday morning after receiving multiple calls for shots heard.

Nobody was reported injured but a truck was hit by gunfire, according to a press release.

Officers said they found 15 shell casings in the area.

Our crews on the scene said CPD had multiple evidence markers lining the 700 block of North 6th Street.

Officers say they do not have any suspects or motives for the shooting.

This is a developing story.

  1. 700 block of North 6th is an interesting location. It is one block away from Hickman HS, Jefferson MS, and Columbia College. Great place for gun crime.
From the police scanner: The pickup truck that got shot up was occupied by at least one person.
The police specifically asked for the fire department to stage as they thought the smoke/steam coming from the shot up truck was a fire, it was just a broken radiator, later the dispatcher asked if the fire department could respond in. I wonder if these radio procedures are a result of the lessons learned from the Volunteer Drive response fiasco?
There was also a report of a suspicious person running from the scene. You can probably guess the race, gender, and age range of this person based on over-represented statistics of past gun crime in our fair city.

  2. Nothing to see here. Go back into your domiciles, Covid is going to get you, not stray bullets or gang related shootings, nothing to see here, violent crime has killed more in the past 8 weeks than Covid, nothing to see here, less police will mean violent criminals will stop, they Said so, nothing to see here. Bullets are not that dangerous, not as much as not wearing a face covering, nothing to see here
