Charges filed in case of Monroe woman’s death

MONROE, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two people are facing charges after authorities found the remains of a woman in Pike County.

On Aug. 6, the Monroe City Police Department began searching for 32-year-old Amanda Johnston who was missing.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B, around 5 a.m. on Aug. 8 investigators found Johnston's remains in northern Pike County.

Now, Jerry B. Asbell Jr., 29, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Jessica M. Ellsworth, 37, is charged with felony tampering with evidence.
