Police are searching for a suspect after a shooting left one person injured early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Ray with the Columbia Police Department said officers responded to the corner of Locust Street and Eighth Street around 12:45 a.m. for a call of a man in the roadway.

Upon arrival officers discovered the victim had been shot and was transported to the hospital shortly after.

Ray said CPD does not have a suspect description but more information will be released later today.

Robert Burlinski, Cafe Poland's manager, located near the intersection of Eighth St. and Locust St. said shootings happening downtown is very concerning as the violence is getting closer to his business.

“It's scary... because it's a reality it’s not TV anymore, Burlinski said. “ I think it’s normal human reaction... to be scared, afraid... and see that something is wrong.”

According to the Columbia Police Dispatch Records, this incident marks the 49th shots fired call in Columbia since April of 2020.

Although this incident was not in the same areas as others it’s still concerning as students are returning to Columbia for school soon.

Allison Haertling, a Mizzou incoming freshman said finding out how close this incident happened to campus does make her worried.

“I am living on campus, Haertling said. “It does make me feel a little bit safe I am on campus, but I mean it does make me feel a little bit stressed going out you know at nights, just to be I guess a little bit more prepared.”
