Man facing BWI charges after fatal boat crash

A man is facing multiple BWI related charges after a boating crash on the Lake of the Ozarks left one person dead and four others injured.

According to MSHP crash reports, John D Bennett, 52, of New Haven, MO, faces multiple boating while intoxicated charges after his boat struck another boat with five people aboard killing one.

A separate report says Dawn, M, Steinkueler, 42, of High Ridge, MO, was pronounced dead on scene at 1:17 a.m.

Four others including one minor suffered injuries of varying severity.

The crash happened near the 18 mile marker on the main channel of the Lake of the Ozarks.

Bennett remains in the Camden County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

This is MSHP Troop F's first boating fatality of July and the second boating fatality of 2020.
