Two suspects shot, one fatally, in south Columbia burglary

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police said an armed resident shot two burglary suspects Wednesday night, leaving one of them dead.

At least 10 CPD vehicles responded to the 6000 block of Bentpath Drive around 9 p.m. Wednesday after a caller reported a burglary with shots fired.

According to a news release from CPD, the resident reported seeing two people break into his home. He told police he fired several shots in self-defense, shooting the two suspects.

Authorities pronounced one suspect dead at the scene. The second suspect was taken to a local hospital for a gunshot wound.

Police said they found evidence of gunfire and damage to the home at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
