Crews to install new stop signs at Cole County intersection
COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Next week crews will install new stop signs to improve the safety of an intersection in Cole County.
The Cole County Public Works Department plans to install the stop signs on S. Country Club Drive at Scruggs Station Road on Tuesday. This will turn it into an all-way stop intersection. The county says it plans to put up message boards to warn drivers about the change.
According to a news release, the project comes after an increase in crashes in the area. Officials said the wrecks at the intersection “intensified in number and severity in 2019.”
ABC 17 News reviewed crash data from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and found records of at least 8 crashes at the intersection in 2019, two of which resulted in injuries. Four people were injured in a wreck on Dec. 8 and two people were hurt in a crash on July 10.
Records show there were at least three crashes in 2018 and at least one crash so far this year.
The city and county public works departments studied the intersection together since it is partially in city limits. The study found that adding stop signs could reduce the number of crashes in the area.
The city and county signed off on the project within the last couple of months.
