Intern Tyler’s tip of the week: April 20, 2020

Without further ado, here's Tyler:

While it was a disappointing week for Mizzou men’s basketball recruiting, the women’s team secured a commitment from a local standout. Could it be that we actually have a sports-related event to watch live this week? Here’s a look at the week that was in the world with no sports.

LOCAL:

• Christopher chooses Arizona State over Mizzou: The five-star recruit announced last Monday he will play his college basketball at Arizona State. The prized recruit from Mayfair High School in California was considering offers from Mizzou, Arizona State, Michigan, UCLA and USC.  
• Turner stays put: Another Mizzou target chose elsewhere last Monday; potential graduate transfer Justin Turner. Turner was seen as one of the top graduate transfer prospects in the country, but he chose to stay at Bowling Green for his final season of eligibility. Turner’s final list consisted of Bowling Green, Mizzou, Marquette and Iowa State. 
• Mizzou lands Linthacum: It was a much more successful week on the recruiting trail for the Mizzou women’s basketball team, who received a commitment from Jefferson City standout Sarah Linthacum. The junior will join her sister Micah Linthacum, who is a forward for the Tigers. 
• Ungles commits to Columbia College: Rock Bridge power forward Jacob Ungles also announced his plan to play college basketball at Columbia College this week. Ungles will join his teammate Brant Bowers and former Rock Bridge Bruin Quinton Brown as a member of the Cougars.
• Mauller, Jacques named All-Americans: Former Tolton standouts and current Mizzou wrestlers Jarrett Jacques and Brock Mauller were named All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Friday. Mauller was named to the first team and Jacques was an honorable mention. Both wrestlers are only sophomores and will be back for the Tigers next season.

NATIONAL:

• Top recruits opt for G League over college basketball: The number one recruit in the nation, Jalen Green, and fellow five-star recruit Isiah Todd both announced this week they will not play college basketball but will instead spend a year playing in the NBA’s G League before entering the NBA Draft. Todd decommitted from Michigan to make this decision, while Green had not announced any future plans. The G League’s new development program offers top high school players a chance to earn up to $500,000 for one year instead of playing in college.
• Something to watch!: As the sports starvation continues, the 2020 NFL Draft is here to give sports fans something to look forward to. The draft starts Thursday night with Round One. The Chiefs hold the 32^nd overall selection. Mizzou standouts Jordan Elliot and Albert Okwuegbunam are expected to be selected in the first few rounds.
