Full interview: Former XFL standout L’Damian Washington ready for next challenge

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former XFL and Mizzou football standout L'Damian Washington is back in Columbia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said his playing career is likely over, but he's thankful for his opportunity to play for the St. Louis Battlehawks this past season.

"If someone guarantees you five games and some excitement and to meet friends that you thought you would never meet before and guarantees you that it will be exciting - I think we would all sign up for it," Washington said.

Washington added, "If this is it for me, then at least I went out with 100 yards. At least I went out with a bang."

Washington said he's hoping to get back into coaching. This past fall, he was the head football coach at West Middle School. The former MU wideout said he's talked with Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz about helping out with the football team.

"I think he's just a great guy," Washington said. "I see a lot of Coach Pinkel in him. He's young. He's determined."

ABC 17 Sports Director Andrew Kauffman caught up with Washington on Monday afternoon. You can watch the full interview in the video player above.
