At least 5 dead after two tornadoes near downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -

At least two tornadoes touched down early Tuesday in central Tennessee, including one that ripped across downtown Nashville.

The twisters killed at least five people overnight and collapsed about 40 buildings around the city.

Police are searching for others who were injured and are asking the able-bodied to stay indoors, at least until daybreak. Blown-down walls and roofs, snapped power lines and huge broken trees are currently making roads and yards dangerous.

Some schools already closed for Super Tuesday voting will be kept closed this week and beyond to handle repairs.
