Cole County prosecutors charged a Russellville man Friday with three felonies in connection with a November shooting on Route T.

David A. Briot of Russellville was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is also charged with careless and imprudent driving, a misdemeanor.

Investigators said in a probable cause statement that the shooting happened after a crash Nov. 17 on Route T. Three men were turning off Route T in their car when Briot hit their vehicle in his truck, according to the statement.

The men in the car say Briot got out of his truck with a gun and one of the men in the car was shot when a struggle ensued, the statement says. The man who was hit had a gunshot wound to his right shin, investigators say.

Briot told deputies that he had the gun in his hoodie pocket and it fell out when he got out of his truck, according to the statement. Briot said the gun fell out and fired when one of the men in the car hit him, the statement says.

It was not immediately clear Friday whether Briot was in custody. No bond had been set, according to online court records.
