One woman in the hospital after police respond to assault with a weapon call

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One woman is in the hospital and another man is in custody after Columbia police responded to assault with a weapon Sunday evening.

Police say the assault happened in the 2000 block of Grindstone Parkway around 6:10 p.m.

Officers were called to the area in reference to an assault with a weapon between two people. The incident involved a man and a woman who police say had been in an intimate relationship in the past.

During the assault, the female sustained injuries and was transported to a local emergency room.  The man is now in custody of CPD officers.

It's unclear what the weapon was or the extent of the injuries. The spokesman for the Columbia Police Department Jeff Pitts said this is an ongoing investigation and no more information is available.
