COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The victim of a Friday home invasion shot one of the men who broke into the home, according to court documents filed on Monday.

Derail Thomas and Julian Shumpert allegedly forced their way into the home in the 100 block of North Garth Avenue to steal marijuana, court documents said.

There were three people in the home before the burglary, and Thomas and Shumpert allegedly hit one of the victims in the face with a handgun during the incident.

After waking up from the noise, one of the victims grabbed a handgun. One of the suspects shot a gun at the victim, and the victim shot back, hitting Thomas.

Thomas was treated at University Hospital, and he and Shumpert are in the Boone County Jail on no bond.

They are charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary.
