Columbia police follow up on leads in Cooper County in missing woman case

A Columbia police source tells ABC 17 News detectives were in Cooper County on Wednesday to follow up on leads in the case of a missing Columbia woman.

The police source would not specify the location being searched.

Mengqi Ji Elledge, 28, went missing Oct. 8. Her husband, Joseph Elledge, reported her missing a day and a half after she allegedly didn't come home.

Elledge is currently in the Boone County jail on suspicion of child abuse. Prosecutors added a second child abuse-related count against Elledge on Monday. He had been charged with one count of child abuse last month.

In a court hearing earlier this month, prosecutors said Elledge was a "prime suspect" in his wife's disappearance.
