One dead, another injured in Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person died Friday, and another was in the hospital after a man tried to kill a woman and then shot himself.

Deshawn Z. Graves, 22, died on Friday as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. Police said Graves shot at the victim, who was sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the 2800 block of Jacobs Place in east Columbia on Friday morning around 8:10 a.m. and found a man and woman with gunshot wounds.

Police said there was no immediate threat to the community.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, Pitts said.

Police were still investigating the shooting on Friday evening.
