COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission rejected a request to rename part of Rice Road at its meeting Thursday night.

D&D Investments of Columbia, LLC had proposed renaming a mile of Rice Road to Geyser Boulevard. The company wanted to rename the road from Ballenger Lane to Lake of the Woods Road.

In a September letter to the community development department, the company said that renaming the road would be part of an effort to "reinvest and reinvigorate" the area. The letter went on to say that the name change would enhance the reputation of the neighborhood. The company also said it had received positive feedback from property owners it contacted.

During the meeting, some commissioners said they felt there were other ways to improve the neighborhood without changing the name of the road.

The commission rejected the proposal in a 6 to 2 vote.
