MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

A home in Mexico, Missouri, had "significant damage" in each room after a fire broke out in one of the bedrooms early Saturday morning.

The Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the call in the 100 block of South Mississippi Street at 2:57 a.m. Saturday. A resident in the home woke up to flames around her bed, according to a news release from MPSD.

Residents of the home tried to put out the fire before evacuating and calling police, the news release said.

When first responders arrived on scene, there was smoke coming through the windows on all three sides of the home.

All residents were able to get out of the home safely, the news release said.

MPSD said it was investigating the cause of the fire, but it has not ruled out the possibility of electronics being the cause.
