Two charged after shots fired in north Columbia

Boone County prosecutors have charged two teens after shots were fired in the 5300 block of Silver Mill Drive on Sunday.

Several officers searched the area around Silver Mill and N. Burning Bush Drive shortly before 9 p.m.

A CPD officer told ABC 17 News crews that gunshots were fired but did not say if there were any injuries or property damage.

One car was towed from the area while police investigated.

Police found Le’Andre Mitchell at the scene and said he was involved, according to court documents filed Monday. Police said in a news release Monday afternoon that Daniel D. Ayers, 17, of Columbia was also arrested.

After searching the home, police found a stolen gun, and Mitchell told police he had possession of the gun, court documents said.

Mitchell was charged with stealing a firearm. Prosecutors charged Ayers with unlawful use of a weapon.

Police said in the release that the investigation that the incident was not “random.”
