WEATHER ALERT DAY: Strong storms possible by early Friday evening

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for the threat of severe storms Friday afternoon and evening. Damaging winds, large hail, and torrential rainfall will likely impact any outdoor plans.
SYNOPSIS:
Surface high pressure has moved off to our southeast, returning winds to a more southerly direction for Friday. This will help set the stage for warm, humid air to return to Mid-Missouri, which will provide the necessary fuel for thunderstorms later today. With the those ingredients in place, a cold front will slide southeast into the viewing area, sparking showers and thunderstorms.

TIMING:
Storms look to start firing west of mid-MO around 7pm and will track east into the viewing area after 8pm.

IMPACTS:
Most of the viewing area will be looking at a damaging wind threat initially, but will transition into a flooding threat by Saturday morning. Storms could line up over the same spots one behind another will pose a flash flooding threat, primarily in our northwestern counties again.

Flash flooding is possible along and north of HWY 24 tonight into Saturday morning as well.

STAY AWARE:
