Jefferson City historic preservation plan in works
A historic preservation plan is in the works for Jefferson City. The 180-page draft plan lays out goals and strategies to maintain the city’s historic buildings and districts.
Neighborhood Services Manager Jayme Abbott said the plan can help guide property owners when making repairs.
“We have a lot of active property owners who are proud of their property, and they want to maintain the integrity of the structure,” she said.
The plan details what actions the city is taking and programs it offers to help promote preservation.
The Neighborhood Reinvestment Program helps to provide down payment assistance and tax reimbursement to owners of historic properties.
Abbott said 90% of commercial buildings downtown received a tax reimbursement by participating in the program.
The city is taking public comment on the draft plan through Oct. 18.
