Centralia police warn about BB gun dangers
The Centralia Police Department is warning parents about the dangers of BB guns after an incident happened Monday.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, officers responded to a call of a suspicious man with a gun. When officers arrived, they found two boys with a suspected weapon, police said. The boys were detained, but officers said they later determined the weapon was actually a carbon dioxide-powered BB gun.
The post went on to talk about the potential dangers of carrying a BB gun that looks like a real weapon.
“I am making this post in a hope to avoid this in the future where an individual will not be injured or killed for carrying a BB pistol,” the post, written by Police Chief Robert Bias, said.
Bias went on to ask parents to be proactive.
“This incident turned out well with no injuries to anyone. We as police officers never want to take someone’s life especially for something this stupid and avoidable,” Bias said. “Parents we ask that you not allow your children take these things out with them when walking around town!”
