Jury to be pulled from outside county in fatal crash case

The jury in a fatal crash case in Columbia will be pulled from a different county, according to a Boone County Circuit Court filing.

Lukas Evans filed for a change of venue in his case last month. Evans is charged with second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident after he was involved in a car crash on West Boulevard that killed Jordan Hoyt, 37, in February.

Columbia police said Evans was speeding from the scene of a crash at Stadium Boulevard and West Boulevard when he hit Hoyt head-on.

The jury will be selected from either Buchanan, Platte, Clay or Pettis county.

Evans is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.
