Missouri State Highway Patrol recovers nearly 800 marijuana plants on I-70

A man now faces a charge in Cooper County after the Missouri State Highway Patrol made a massive drug bust.

Kevin S. Hatt, 53, of New York City was arrested June 1 by troopers on eastbound Interstate 70 near Boonville.

According to court documents, 792 marijuana plants, 2 pounds (0.91 kg) of liquid THC, more than 1 ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found inside Hatt’s vehicle.

THC is the active ingredient in cannabis.

The Highway Patrol said some marijuana plants were in plain view before troopers conducted a search of the vehicle.

Troopers were told by Hatt the plants were hemp but he couldn’t tell troopers where or how he got the plants, according to the probable cause statement.

Hatt is charged in Cooper County with manufacturing a controlled substance.
