Weather Alert Day: Strong to severe storms possible through Wednesday

A Weather Alert Day has been issued by the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team as several rounds of rain and storms move through Mid-Missouri this week. A stalled boundary will bring heavy rain for the morning commute. Storms will produce heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and bring the chance of large hail and damaging winds.

SYNOPSIS: The severe threat will remain limited into the morning, but rain will be heavy and could significantly slow the morning commute. Into the afternoon, we may get enough clearing that a few more isolated severe storms develop by early evening.

TIMING: We begin to clear out by noon on Tuesday, with preliminary isolated storms possible between 7PM and 11PM. Another complex of storms develops to our west Tuesday night into Wednesday, continuing heavy rainfall into Wednesday morning. Depending on how quickly storms move out early Wednesday, a more widespread severe weather threat is possible late in the day into Wednesday night.

THREATS: Heavy rain will be the main threat over the next 3 days, but large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes will be possible with storms that develop late on Tuesday and again on Wednesday. 2-4″ of rain is possible through late week with locally higher amounts.

A Flash Flood Watch continues through Thursday morning for expected high rain totals in some of the same areas that received flooding last week.

This storm system will continually change as the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team receives and analyzes more data. We will be updating the Insider Blog, as well as providing additional information in our newscasts.

Stay with the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team throughout the Weather Alert Day to keep you and your family prepared as we track the impacts through Thursday morning.
