Responders rescue several drivers from flooded roads

As much of Mid-Missouri prepares for a possible second round of rain, emergency responders are ready to continue helping drivers that get caught on flooded roadways.

The Jefferson City Fire Department rescued a woman from her car on South Boulevard shortly after midnight Wednesday.

No injuries were reported, and the department posted a picture online of crews on a small boat during the rescue. According to a department statement, the vehicle became disabled in rising floodwaters.

In Cooper County, authorities had to throw a rope to one driver that was standing on top of their car.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott White said troopers responded to reports of a flooded car around Bunceton around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

White said one trooper donned a life jacket and tossed a rope to the male driver, who was standing on top of his flooded car. The driver was rescued safely by troopers and the Cooper County Fire Protection District.

Troopers have also performed rescues in Miller, Audrain, Morgan and Callaway counties.

Authorities say it only takes a few inches of water to lose control of your vehicle.

“All you’re doing is taking a chance every time you do that,” Turner said. “Where you end up is
at Mother Nature’s disposal.”
