Lightning causes house fire in south Columbia

Fire investigators said lightning caused a south Columbia house fire Tuesday.

The Columbia Fire Department was called to a south Columbia neighborhood Tuesday afternoon after a house caught fire. The first firefighters at the scene said flames were showing through the roof of the home on Brackenhill Court, Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brad Fraizer said. A dog was inside at the time of the fire but got out safely, Fraizer said.

No one was in the home when the fire broke out. Crews were able to contain the fire in 20 minutes.
