Two briefly hospitalized after Jefferson City prison fights

Two inmates were hospitalized but released the same day after fights Saturday at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

One inmate had to get stitches above his eyebrow and another suffered facial fractures, Missouri Department of Corrections spokeswoman Karen Pojmann said in an email. Both men were released the same day and the man with facial fractures is under observation at the prison, she said.

Two fights happened Saturday at the prison — one outside the food service area and another in a dining room shortly after the first one, Pojmann said. Nine inmates were involved in the first incident and three in the second one, which resulted in no injuries that required treatment, she said.

Inmates’ movement remains restricted while the investigation continues, Pojmann said, but visiting took place as usual throughout the weekend.
