Boone County apologizes for errant weather alerts

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management apologized Friday afternoon for inadvertently slamming users with dozens of weather alerts from other parts of the country.

The messages started going out after 1 p.m. to users who have signed up for the county’s emergency alert system through the vendor RAVE. The alerts included tornado warnings, flash flood watches and ocean condition statements from several states including Maryland, Georgia and the Carolinas.

The Boone County office in the news release apologized “for any inconvenience and concern caused by the unintentional activation of severe weather alerts from outside of Boone County.” The problem happened during an upgrade to the system and has been resolved, the office said.
