New Callaway EMS headquarters burns in morning fire
The new Callaway County EMS headquarters located in Tanglewood caught fire early Thursday morning.
The newly purchased building was under construction at the time of the fire, and officials consider the building a total loss.
Callaway County Ambulance District Director Charles Anderson said contruction of the new EMS headquarters brgan at the beginning of the year. He said it was a $3.8 million project and that $400,000 was already spent on the project.
The building and the contractor were both insured, Anderson said, so he believes the damage will be covered.
Anderson said efforts to rebuild the structure would begin next week.
“We’ll be meeting I’m sure with the general contractor and the architectural firm to go over next steps, and determine a plan going forward,” he said.
No one was hurt in the fire, according to fire officials on scene. The Missouri fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, but officials said foul play was not suspected.
The Fulton Fire Department, Central Callaway Fire Protection District, South Callaway Fire Protection District and EMS responded to the scene. When crews arrived, flames were coming from the roof of the building.
