Interim chief cautions public about home invasions

Interim Columbia police Chief Geoff Jones brought together the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the University of Missouri Police Department for a joint news conference at Columbia Police Department headquarters Friday.

Jones discussed Friday morning’s robbery, as well as the March 21 home invasion robbery on Spiros Drive. Jones said the suspects were wearing hoodies, which are not the type of clothes SWAT officers or warrant-serving deputies would wear.

Deputies and officers demostrated what real law enforcement professionals would wear in various types of scenarios.

Jones said detectives have been assigned to both cases, but no arrests have been made.

He also asked residents on Sprios Drive, Lilly Lane and Holly Avenue to check any surveillance footage from doorbell and other security cameras and report anything suspicious.
