Fulton woman hurt in I-70 crash

An 81-year-old Fulton woman suffered serious injuries in a crash on Interstate 70 near the Missouri River bridge Thursday afternoon.

A 2017 Freightliner semi-truck was stopped because of traffic congestion at the 113.6 mile marker of I-70 eastbound, just west of the bridge in Cooper County, when a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am slid into the back of the truck, the Missouri State Highway Patrol wrote in an online crash report.

Elta Johnson, who was riding in the Grand Am, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries, according to the report. She was taken by Cooper County ambulance to University Hospital.

The Grand Am driver, Tenia Briseno, 59, of Columbia, was not hurt. The Freightliner driver was uninjured.

The crash, which happened at about 2:15 p.m., slowed traffic as first responders worked at the scene.
