Flood precautions continue in Mid-Missouri

Flooding precautions continue in Mid-Missouri. Cooper County officials have thousands of sandbags and several truckloads of sand on standby to help stop floodwater.

“At this point sandbags aren’t going to do a ton of good, unless the river continues rising to protect some of these structures,” said Larry Oerly, Cooper County Emergency Management Agency director.

Floodwater shut down portions of Highway OO, Highway V and some low-lying roads on Monday, according to Cooper County Emergency Management.

Oerly said flooded roads will need inspections once the water recedes.

“Make sure they’re not damaged and not washed out underneath them,” he said. “Especially on a blacktop, you get washed out and it can collapse.”
