Five arrested on suspicion of stealing, car chase

Five people are in custody after police said they stole thousands of dollars in merchandise from the Dicks Sporting Goods store on Stoneridge Parkway around 3:20 p.m.

Lt. David Williams said the suspects reportedly fled with a large amount of clothing, but an employee was able to give a description of the vehicle.

Officers tried to pull the black Kia Soul over on Missouri Blvd. but it wouldn’t stop. The suspects got on Highway 54 and then got on Highway 63 going north.

Police said they were throwing the stolen merchandise out the window. Williams said it was recovered by assisting officers.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol deployed tired deflation devices near Zumwalt Road and Highway 63 near Ashland. The vehicle stopped and the five people were taken into custody.

So far, more than $3,000 in merchandise has been recovered.

Williams said charges for theft, traffic violations and resisting arrest are pending.

All five people, four women and a man, are being held in the Cole County Jail.
