Autopsy reveals mid-Missouri inmate died of natural causes

Results of an autopsy reveal an inmate died of natural causes at the Saline County Jail this week.

The Saline County coroner said an autopsy conducted Friday on the body of Heidi H. Elfering , 48, of Glasgow, showed she died of a hemorrhage of the brain stem.

According to the autopsy report, Elfering had a history of uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Elering was pronounced dead around noon Thursday after she was found unresponsive in her cell.

Foul play isn’t suspected in Elering’s death.

Elering was arrested during a court appearance Wednesday on a probation violation.
