Cunningham, Porter and Aldridge deliver on an emotional senior day

“You all made my childhood dreams come true,” Sophie Cunningham said as she grabbed the microphone to thank the thousands of fans that braved the snow on senior day.

Cunningham, Cierra Porter, Lauren Aldridge and the rest of the Mizzou women’s basketball team trounced Alabama, 82-47, on an emotional day for the seniors.

Cunningham finished the day off like she has so many times at Mizzou Arena. She finished with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Porter had 11 points and seven rebounds while Aldridge had seven points.

Surrounded by friends and family, the three seniors had an emotional day filled with smiles, tears and laughter.

Each senior got a chance to sub out in the fourth quarter to standing ovation from the crowd. Cunningham subbed out of the game with four minutes to go with tears streaming down her face. She and head coach Robin Pingeton shared a long hug before she walked to the bench. The crowd chanted “Sophie Sophie Sophie,” as she and the rest of the seniors played their final game at Mizzou Arena.

The good news for the seniors is this isn’t the end of the season. The Tigers next prepare for the SEC tournament. The Tigers are the fifth seed and will play the winner of Ole Miss/Florida on March 7.
