Columbia Planned Parenthood aims to reopen next week

The Columbia Planned Parenthood may reopen next week after a weekend fire forced it to close.

Officials with Planned Parenthood Great Plains confirmed Thursday afternoon that repairs are underway and they hope to reopen next week.

The FBI Kansas City Division is investigating the fire as a federal hate crime. The agency is also offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information on the incident.

The fire started around 4 a.m. Sunday. A person wearing dark-colored clothing was seen on surveillance video walking onto the Planned Parenthood property on Providence Road, according to the FBI. The same person was seen leaving Planned Parenthood on foot as smoke emanated from the facility.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to the scene, but the fire was extinguished by sprinklers by the time they got there.
