Freezing rain & snow chance AM Sunday
Another quick round of wintry weather will move in late Saturday night into Sunday morning and could cause slick roads before temperatures warm. Moisture will move in from the southwest into below freezing temperatures. Freezing rain will develop as early as 2 AM near Truman Reservoir, lifting northeast through 6 AM, changing to snow in areas north of I-70 where deeper cold air is present.
The main precipitation type north of I-70 will be snow with a mix of freezing rain and snow near I-70 and mainly freezing rain and sleet south. Light snow accumulation of a dusting to two inches is expected with a glaze of ice in areas south of I-70.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory ahead of this system for all of Mid-Missouri. The main concern will be the slick conditions that develop during a heavy traffic period on Sunday morning. While amounts don’t look heavy, this wintry mix can come down quickly, creating slick conditons quickly as road temperatures will be near freezing.
