Jefferson City man charged with murder after Cole County shooting
UPDATE: Austin Corrigan, 21, of Jefferson City was charged with several felony charges Friday evening in connection to the morning shooting on Route E.
Corrigan was charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree assault by Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson’s office.
According to the probable cause statement, the dispatch center received a call from one of the two shooting victims Friday morning in the 4500 block of Route E. Upon arrival, a male victim was found deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.
Minutes after receiving that call, Corrigan called 911 and said the two victims had been killed in their home on Route E.
Corrigan said he believed the two were dead “because he had just heard and he went to the location to check on them,” according to the probable cause statement. He also told authorities he believed the victims were meth dealers.
Corrigan told officers what kind of car he drove, a Jeep, and officers later found him driving on HWY 50 and attempted a traffic stop. Corrigan accelerated and a pursuit began. The chase ended in Holts Summit after Corrigan crashed into a building and attempted to flee on foot.
The owner of the Jeep said Corrigan left with the vehicle at 3:30 a.m., less than 30 minutes before the shooting on Route E.
The female victim’s description of Corrigan and his clothing matched his appearance. Cole County deputies said Corrigan and the victims knew each other before the shooting, but would not expand upon the nature of that relationship.
The owner of the Jeep told deputies that his pistol and ammunition were missing after Corrigan left with the car.
Detectives found three spent shell casings at the home that were of the same brand that went missing when Corrigan left with the Jeep Friday morning.
Corrigan is being held with no bond at the Cole County Jail.
ORIGINAL: The Cole County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a homicide Friday morning after two people were shot, one of them fatally, on Route E.
Deputies responded to the 4500 block of Route E at approximately 3:49 a.m. Friday morning after a woman called saying she and her husband had been shot, the Cole County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The woman told police the name of the person who shot them.
When deputies arrived, they found both victims, one of whom was deadat the scene, and the other was taken to University Hospital in Columbia, the release said.
A Jefferson City police officer located the suspect in a vehicle and tried to pull them over. However, the suspect led police on a chase that ended in Holts Summit after the suspect’s vehicle crashed into an out building of America’s Best Inn.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
