Jefferson City, Cole County say roads in good shape

Jefferson City and Cole County roads are drivable, but public works officials caution drivers to be on the lookout for slick spots.

“Our crews came in about three o’clock this morning,” said Britt Smith, the operations division director for the Jefferson City Public Works. “They were able to make rounds throughout the city and get a light coat of salt.”

Larry Bishop, the road superintendent with Cole County Public Works, agreed the roads in the area were in good condition. Cole County Public Works also had people monitoring the roads at 3 a.m.

“We mostly put salt down where water was running across the road,” Bishop said.

Though many roads in the area may be clear, some of the biggest slick spots may be in parking lots. According to Smith, the piles of snow from the recent snow storm might still cause problems.

“There’s piles of snow and as the warmer weather was going on, that would melt and drain towards the lower spots in parking lots,” Smith said. “So those areas between the low spots and those piles of snow can refreeze in a very short order and can become very slick.”

Both departments said they are prepared for upcoming road treatments if the need arises.
