Weather Alert Day: Snowstorm to bring significant snow accumulation
A WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL COUNTIES IN MID-MISSOURI . THE WARNING GOES IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING.
FRIDAY: A transition to all snow has occurred across Mid-Missouri, with huge snowflakes adding to higher accumulation values. Temperatures are holding steady near the freezing mark, which prompted the increase in snowfall amounts across Mid-Missouri. Expect road conditions to deteriorate through the day, as the snow becomes heavier at times and accumulates on the roads. Many areas will likely see upwards of 6″ of snow on the ground by the time six o’clock rolls around.
TONIGHT: Moderate to heavy widespread snowfall continues overnight as temperatures drop into the upper 20s to just below freezing. Snow will begin to stick to untreated roads with accumulation overnight, causing slow travel.Total snow amounts of 8-12 inches are expected with lowest totals west from near HWY 65 to Kansas City and higher amounts east of HWY 63. Some accumulation in our eastern counties could rise well over a foot”. Visibility will continue to be reduced through the night, but luckily blowing snow won’t be much of an issue with winds out of the southeast up to 9 mph.
EXTENDED: Snow showers will continue through the day Saturday, but thankfully not as heavy as we expect overnight into Saturday. Additional accumulation Saturday will amount to 1-2″ and taper off to light snow showers Saturday night into Sunday morning as clouds persist. High temperatures will hover near the freezing mark Saturday, dropping to the upper 20s Saturday night. Sunday will still be cold, reaching the mid 30s with snow flurries ending. We’ll slowly warm next week, reaching the mid 40s by Tuesday. Another cold front drops in Wednesday, cooling us back into the 30s by next Thursday. At this time the moisture looks limited with this front but some very light rain or wintry mix can’t be completely ruled out late Wednesday.
